I bought one of these about 2 months ago. I have probably seen him about 4 times since then. Do these things ever come out for us to look at? And how fast do they typically grow? Right now he's only about 3" and is in a 10gal with my apple snail. How long do you think I can keep him in there?

Do you have an L #, picture, or scientific name? Without that we can't really tell you info about it. Some plecos take years to become comfortable, and some will be out all the time.
i had one of these, they are a neet pleco. mine got killed by a cow pleco but they are slow growers, and i never saw it unless it was night and only eye shine with a flashlight. They love wood and if you have any in your tank they will spend all their time crammed into a crevis in a log.
There are a couple referred to as a tiger (eg. L066, L002) but many plecos are quite secretive, some species more than others, and then of course each individual is different (and also the sex of them comes into it). Put it this way I have some plecs i see everday and some i may only seen every couple of months... keeps you on your toes i guess.
It's an L002. I finally saw it again over the weekend. I think he's probably about 2", so he's smaller than I thought.

I bought one yesterday (L-066), havent seen him since. Your post makes me think that I wont see him again. lol. i love plecos.
Nice looking plec. Be glad you got a picture of it. Mine runs by the time I turn on the camera and aim it.
