Tiger ray growth rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you have pics? I have had mine for a month, looks to have grown maybe 1/2in but for sure it has gotten thicker.

Growth rate depends on water quality and diet. If you had a drip system then I would not be surprised if they grow a 1/2" a month. With standard water changes then probably a 1/2" every 2 months. They won't start turning black until around the 10" mark and some later than that. If you keep the tank dark and use black substrate it will happen sooner.

I don't think they have parasites otherwise they'd dead already given the time I have had them.

Thanks for the growth rate info, fishdog. It sounds like they are slow growers and 1/2" every month or two sounds about right.

A ray can have parasites for a long time but still be alive, even beyond the couple months you've had it. Also, like fishdog said, your rays won't start darkening up until it gets a bit bigger.

I have found tiger rays to be pretty slow growers. They are often picky eaters and that may have something to do with it. The one exception I'd say is that CB tigers grow pretty rapid comparred to WC individuals in my experience.
