I sold my florida gars because gars need bigger tank then a 135. I tried putting a large frontosa in there was a disaster and had to seperate them. When i first put all these community fish he would chase them a few times he torpedoed the large rainbows. But the rainbows are fast he seemed to not like the bigger ones even more. But he seems less and less interested in tem. Can this work in the long term or Em i crazy lol ar dumb?????????

I never kept severums, but through research of them I think this could work.

Severum are pretty chill for cichlids. He shouldn't give your rainbows too much grief. He might start at them but shouldn't bite or shred fins. He just wants a patch to call his own, so he might chase fish out of his turf but doesn't really have the heart to pursue for long. I think you will be fine, but even fish within a species can differ from each other, they do have personality that is for sure. Water parameters overlap for each species so you should be fine there, only problem I see is that the rainbows don't have enough plant cover, they love it to hide in and also helps break up sight lines. Might try to put some plant clusters at the ends of the tank or along the back, leaving the front/center open for free swimming.

^ severus, particularly wild-caught ones, are actually much more pushy and aggressive than most other Heros species. They are rough on conspecifics and they’ll gladly eat small fish. It likely won’t be able to catch the larger rainbows but it may try.

yep I'm going to add more plantsa i had gars before the rainbows he had no problem with them also a albino clown knife who he chased at first then didn't care. But i tell you he must not like other ciclids adding a frontosa was a bad move. I was told these sev's are more aggresive then other sev's.

the weird thing is he never ate feeders before when i threw them in with gars but he will eat ghost shrimp and he goes crazy for them. As you can see i have small rainbows and larger ones and small balla sharks he never went after them but he id act aggresive towanrds the 2 big rainbows. Seems he has been laying off of them now and doesn't care for them now
