Hi Guy's

Just a quick one this is my first time keeping Tiger shovel nose catfish and i feed all my fish every other day but i have noticed the my tiger has a huge Belly i'm pretty sure it's because he's eaten too much.

So what i wanted to know is do they usually gauge them selves with food and get these huge belly's ?

there pretty much pig's, mine (TSN) is like this . how big is your tank and catfish?? if he's not eaten then deffanently worry , you may want to lesson the amount fed to the fish break up the feeding twice a day every other day so they can process a little first ..

yes they love to eat more then they probably need to. Hope you have room for it, cause the tsn grows large very quickly.

My TSN is only 5.5" now my tank is 180gal

He's eating great ! I may try breaking it up in to 2 feeds a day every other day!

yeah i can tell there fast growers i've only had him 3 weeks and when i got him he was this skinny little fish now he's putting on some weight and filling out nicly he's also grown a half inch since i got him!

Most pimelodids are pigs with very extensible stomachs. My little TSN (now 5") will eat until his stomach looks like he swallowed a little basketball. I am currently powerfeeding him so that I can move him into my 200 with a RTC and a royal clown knife.

If you are not trying to grow him up rapidly, I would recommend smaller feedings every other day. When these guys are larger, they don't need to eat every day, so skipping meals will not kill them.

i have some great pics (unfortuanatley i cant download them) of my tsn after he has eaten a meal that wasn't supposed to be a meal - stomach was the size of a golf ball when he was about 11" long - he didnt move for like 2 days - must've gave himself a little bit of a stomach ache!!

Why can't you download them ? download them to your gallery and then copy and stick them to a thread !!!

I just got a retail tiger shovel nose hybrid...maybe. I would post a picture, but I don't know how. I just got it so he's pretty skinny right now, but they fed him at the pet shop and he was eating, so hopefully it'll make it. My jag cichlid was kind of beating up on it, so I rearranged the tank. Hopefully that'll help. Any advice?

A big phat driftwood hideaway that the jag can't get into. Other than that I would just find some healthy feeders and flood the tank, if your bio load isnt to large as it is. The jag will be busy killing feeders and the hybrid gets to eat what comes in his cave.
