I bought one a few months ago, he was about 3 inches long. Now he is about 6-7 inches. My main concern with this fish, is I refuse to feed it live fish. I had to in the beginning, cause that was all he would eat. I also have two Tiger Muskies, who will eat nothing but live fish. Well I buy them minnows, and I've gotten the Shovel to eat the dead minnows that don't make it to musky land!!! So I guess thats a start in training him to eat dead food. He still won't eat pieces of fish meat, but he's been eating dead minnows for about two weeks now, so I guess it's only time. Any help on any other type of meat he might like besides fish?? I am thankful for any help anyone can give me!

Try worms!

Worms are live, I'm looking for dead food he will eat. Like pieces of fish or chicken or beef or pork?

Try market shrimp.

Why don't you want to feed live worms?

Shrimp is to expensive. Live worms are live, and this fish gets 4ft long. If he wants to get large, he will need to learn to eat dead cheap food. Course the bait shop gives me all their dead minnows, so I guess i could keep him on that.

And you think pieces of chicken, pork, etc. for a 3-4' fish is going to be cheap? :screwy:

If you have access to a lake or pond go out and catch a bunch of bluegill and freeze them, it'll probably be heathier than the bait shop dead minnow stock.
