Hey MFK friends. I am thinking that I would like to add a tiger shovelnose to my collection. Is there anything I should think about before doing this...? I have a 210 Gallon with a FX5 filter. 3 peacock bass, 1 Bicher, 1 silver Arowana, 1 silver Datiod....?, 1 ghost knife, 1 pleco, and 1 silver gar. Am I over stocking my tank...? and will that cat get along with those tankmates that would be the last addition to my tank. What do you all think....?

tsn have a very big mouth and can open it very wide and they like to eat just make sure your other fish are big enough otherwise you be giving it some expensive feeders

mine took down a 7-8 knife fish folded it in half and down it went and also a nice size 7 inch feeder cichlid i was impressed

the cichlid take down action shot

honestly I was very surprised at this guys strike speed and ability to stuff things in his mouth

+1 on previous post and TSN will also outgrow that tank fairly quickly

Edit: there are people who have thought I was screwy for what I use as feeders for him but MEH african cichlids though nice and colorful give him a good challenge in hunting plus they are disease free. Also I take for granted that any fish in the water with him is fair game regardless of their genus or size, so just make sure any fish in the water is considered as such and if you got the tank get it and enjoy.

I wanted to wait for others to speak up before I said this so as not to see to be pooh poohing your desire to get a tsn.

Mine right now is less than a year old is almost 18 inches long, he is in a 230g. I have a 8 ft 300g and a 10 ft 300g on hand so I have his next 2 homes already in possession. Though in my basement I am building a river tank 24 feet long x 3feet high x 4 feet wide which will be his next step and I will most probably build a greenspace greenhouse where his forever home is.

I wanted to add that there is also a 600g 8 x 4 ft tank that I might have a line on that is here in regina as well.

I have a silver aro, 2 niger cats , 3 adonis pleco, possible add is my west african lung though dont want him hurting the above. I am also growing out 2 red bay snooks and a range of other larger fish that will hit the 18-36 inch mark when full grown who will populate either my long tank or my greenhouse tank.

So I would really recommend against the tsn perhaps a smaller version of the same body style. Though if you can get your self the wide footprint larger tank for a forever home get it they have so much personality I hand feed mine shrimp.

Sweet thanks guys no TSN for me.....SO If a want something that style what are my other options...? Something that wont out grow my 210 if any...?
