Tiger shovelnose catfish

I got a tiger shovel nose he is about 5-6 inches long but he's brown and only has a grayish strip on is side and different shades of brown will he grow to be black and silver or will he stay like this forever

The pattern evolves and changes over the next few years. I have examined patterns on the ones I raised from babies to adulthood and you can still see the juvie markings on the adults if you track it throughout their development. It seems the pattern emerges over time. So the black spots you see now will still be there, but there will be much more as he grows as well. they are pretty much solid colored when born and as they grow the pattern spreads and develops. It is definitely normal and you have no worries other than the potential monster you have in your tank that may well hit 3' plus in the next few years lol. :) Good luck and keep us posted if you can.
