Hey, I need some help. I bought this fish as a tiger shovelnose, but something isn't right. Either he is deformed or he's a different species. Look at his nose how it curves downward. Is this a deformed shovelnose or some other relative? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Is that what you think? I have a deformed shovelnose? If so I guess i love him even more. I'll give him a home. He's in with my Muskies, and will need to learn to eat more aggressive, cause Mallory and Mickey get almost everything.

just growing a little wierd lol and if you feed at night i think you will have the oposet problem

No, the muskies can see in the dark and eat hard at night. I tried it before, and the Muskies got every goldfish! With all lights off.

A lot of TSN look that way from ramming the glass and breaking their snout. When they heal they look (more or less) like yours.

Got one just like it at almost 18", would probably be 19-20" if not for the curved snout. It gets worse and worse as they grow. It's definitely a deformity. From all acounts it's more than likely that the plates on top of the skull fuse together and kinda grab onto the sutures that let the skull grow in it's normal path. The skull continues to grow and follows the only path availible, which is downward. Mine went from just mildly curved to now his lower jaw completely protrudes in front of his upper. He can still eat, but I have to chop up his shrimp small enough for him to get his mouth around. He still stalks the shrimp and strikes lightning fast, just the difficult part is him getting the food in his mouth.

It worked tonight!!! I dumped a dozen large goldys in the tank, let the Muskies eat and shut the lights off. Tiger shovenose then cornered all the goldfish in the top corner and began to feed on them one by one! YEAH!!!! I've never seen him that fat!
