Hi All,

After I fed tonight, I looked in and my juvenile tigrinis was looking funny. I have seen him eat a lot of worms before and have a nice fat belly, but this looks different. It is bulging in some areas, and almost sunken in others. His gut area looks distended in a kidney bean shape.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

I tried still pictures but he was moving too fast, so I opted for a video.

Do you think he is constipated (blockage)? Or do you think I have an internal parasite problem? Or something else???

I saw him briefly earlier today and didn't notice anything unusual. I only noticed after I fed. Although the problem could have existed then and I didn't see it. I fed thawed frozen bloodworms, mysis, and brine shrimp like I usually do... nothing new or different.

Any suggestions or insights would be appreciated. I'm planning to go to bed and check on him in the morning and see if it goes away. If it is gone, I will assume some sort of blockage that passed... If it is still there, I am going to need some suggestions on what to do next.

Thanks,

Eric

did he eat something (rock, tankmate, etc) that could have been that shape?

You know, I didn't think about that. No tankmates would be possible, but I did neglect to mention that I also fed some krill for the other big guys. I have never seen him go after it... But now I am really hoping it's krill. It does have the curved shape. I'm going to hope for the best and I will post an update in the morning.

He is not feeling good, for sure. BUT, having said this, I would say it is from a full stomach. Go to sleep, he'll be ok when you wake up.

mmmmm, kidney beans! Yeah, just don't feed him for a day or two and see how he progresses.

He looked a lot better this morning. I guess I will be adding krill to the list of foods he likes. Although I think I will hold off on more krill in that tank for a few days.

When I first got him, he would only eat live blood worms... and it took a while to even get him onto thawed frozen bloodworms... so it was very surprising to me that he took the thawed krill.

Thanks to everyone for their responses. Especially to Jeox, I had completely dismissed the idea that he would have taken a huge chunk of krill. I'm not normally one to panic about things, but the tigrinis is toward the more expensive side of things... and they aren't always easy to find.

Thanks again!

-Eric
