Hi there,

So I've read that these are not too compatible, what's your experience in keeping Tigs with other similar catfish?

Thanks

I have no experience with either, but one problem could be that tigs grow much larger than limas, large enough that a lima might easily become a snack.

So I've read that these are not too compatible...

Elaborate please. In what regard. Where you read it. Etc.

My tig never bothered any other properly sized tank mates.

Just to share my experience I did comm a tig & lima together they did well together .my tig will stay btm while my lima mid no fights from them.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using MonsterAquariaNetwork App

Here is one thread where I read it: http://forum.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33665, post # 4 says "There is also the possibility of aggression between the catfishes as Brachyplatystoma species do not tollerate other shovelnose shaped catfishes well and are best kept as a solitary single catfish."

Does anyone have any personal experience on this?

Needless to say I would get rid of the Lima if need be but would love to keep them both.

x2 I have a Tig, Lima and a Jurnese in my 420 they each have their own spot. The Tig and the Jur spar a little bit every now and then but never with the Lima. However imo Lima grow alot slower than tigs. So make sure your lima is bigger than the tig starting out.

Thanks. That's more understandable but probably very rare if it does occur. As our colleagues above say, I'd be more worried about possibe predation on lima if the sizes are right for that. Not only lima but TSNs, Leiarius, various Pimelodus that resemble Brachyplatystoma much more than lima have been fine with jurs and tigs IME and that of others. But I would agree that freakish things do occur.

I'll put them together and give it a shot, thanks all.

I don't know about the tig and the lima but I kept a tig and a marble sailfin together and they hated each other. They were constantly beating up on each other. I had to separate the two of them so they could heal up.
