Hello all, I do know that there is a recent thread regarding tigrinus cats but my questions are different. I really love tigrinus I had a very small one about 2 years ago, but it died. It just wasn't eating. My question is for those who have experience keeping these amazing catfish what advice do you have to those who buy juvenile ( 5") tigrinus. Or should I try to get my hands on a larger specimen e.g. 7" - 10". Please advise as I just find the smaller ones to not be as hardy. There are a few juvenile tigrinus at some LFS's.

I raised a few but got rid of them as I didnt want to wait until they hit the 20" mark for my big tank. Ive raised a few from 2" to over a foot. What I would recommend if getting the babies, is put it in a small tank by itself 10 or 20g. buy bulk live blackworms and feed a couple times a day. Once it starts putting on size start mixing small pieces of fish fillet in with the worms. Do this for a while til over 6" or so then try to get on little pieces of massivore pellets as well. You really need to go with the live worms at a small size.

Oh yea I forgot, they like current so I would put a rock in the tank with a small powerhead and they will usually perch themselves on the rock in front of the current. Just make sure there is no way for it to get sucked into the powerhead. Cooler temp like 78.
