So I have a 11 inch tigrinus catfish that I have had for about 4 months or so.. He was about 6 or 7 inchs when I got him, and I tried for a week or so to get him to frozen shrimp or pellets. I gave up and went back to live food. Now I am fighting fish lice, but that problem is being fixed at the moment. Anyone had one that was very difficult to get to take other foods? This is my first one and I really like this fish, but don't want to fight parasites all the time. I also know feeder fish are not the best thing for them. Any ideas would be great...

mine took frozen krill after 2 days of not eating, and he gobbled down shrimp really fast, how long have you been starvin him?

sorry didnt catch earlier you said a week. i would try longer and if i did starve a fish for that long i would keep goin until my purposes for starving the fish were accomplished

I agree with ya on the clown knife... I don't mind pushing him to his limits... just don't want to push the tigrinus to hard.. not a cheap fish to try again on... just seeing if anyone else had a really hard time with one before... guess it doesn't help that his is 11 inchs now... he hasn't had anything for 3 days now... gonna wait a few more and time the garlic on some frozen krill..

guess i forgot to mention have a clown knife with the same problem... i have 2 of them and one had no problem getting him to pellets... and no they are not in the same tank before i get warnings that they will fight... they are in 2 different tanks

Have you tried talapia. Get some fillets from local grocery store, cut up in pieces and drop them with light off. Wait 30 min after you turn off the light so the tig can get little active.

will try... i tried the krill after turning the lights off for an hour or so... he moves around during the day but more at night... it's been about 3 or 4 days since he ate... going to wait a few more then try the garlic... if that doesn't work i'll try that... thanks... any ideas are welcome
