I wanted to know what the growth rate of a Tigrinus catfish is and also max size. I couldn't find them in the sticky. I also want to know about raising them properly and what can be its tank mate because I want to have him with a ray or two an armatus and maybe a black aro for a while in my 180 gallon.

the with of the tank is everything with these fish on like other fish of there size they need a much larger turn radius. also you will find 2ft seems to be the argued max size. as far as tank mates go anything that dwells on the bottom of the tank with any catfish is a bad idea.

I'm currently growing out an eight incher and I think it depends on how much you feed them.

I just finished picking one up about a month ago and he's growing very nicely, already an inch bigger, 6'' now. I always have his tank stocked with feeders 24/7 and I have him with a few geos (which he's already tried to eat more then once) but these fish are a lot easier to grow-out when they're by themselves. I wouldn't put them with other fish till they can feed on other then live. But I haven't tried any other foods, because live is easiest, and I'm not to big of a fan of starving such young fish. I wait till their larger and with a lot more weight on them. But growth rate is pretty good, nothing to crazy. If I had to say about medium at most from what I'm seeing.

I agree with you about starving young fish, let them get some size on them before training/weening them onto other foods.

^ so whats the growth rate???

I would appreciate advice from people who have kept tigrinus catfish pleeaasee(:

I have a tiger shovel nose true You plan for a 24inch fish i plan for a 48inch fish sorry i couldn't apparently help you with your smaller fish LOL

yeah man its alight I'm raising an rtc and a rtcxtsn hybrid... they are growing fast.. I was just looking for like after a year "so many inches" in 2years "this many inches" kinda like that

Got a 3" Tig about 3 yrs ago, currently 19", fed almost exclusively Hikari Massivore daily (6-10 pellets) until a few months ago, now it eats every other day. Lives in a 170G, 24" wide with many other bottom dwellers.

7 x Clown Loaches (6.5"-9")
10" Ansorgii bichir
Many Datnoids, a couple of cichlids, 8" Fei Feng Flatail.

The Tig primarily hangs out at one end of the tank, chasing others away but without biting. But, roams around the tank a lot at night since its nocturnal. Its doing well, but the truth is, the tank is too small. I've seen the combo of armatus, arowana, and rays together with a tig in many vids, but you'll want a much wider tank if you are going to raise rays. Good luck, hope this helps.

My tig has lived with an arrow, rays, ID shark, paroon shark. I trained mine on pellets right away. Feeders are a bad idea. Your trusting a lfs to sell you healthy feeders to feed your expensive fish. If they sell you bad ones good by tig. To me at least. Pellets are far better for them and grow faster on them mine is growing at a decent rate but no were near a rtc or paroon.
