The standard answer would be: when your tig maxes out at the 2' mark, he should be in a tank of at least 8'x4' foot print but because he is skittish/spookish and a very active nocturnal swimmer, the minimum is often raised 1.5 times to 12'x6'. This is what experts would advise. Very few people can afford it. But the perk is that you can have another dozen of 2-footers in such a spectacular tank with him with appropriate filtration.
