Hi Everyone,

I just moved my tigrinus to my paddlefish tank since he couldn't compete much during feeding in his old tank and i thought it would not be good for his growth.

Size of Tig is 8", housed with 5 paddlefish of 5" size
I know the paddlefish grow very fast and will catch up to Tig's size in no time but i am really concerned at this moment of the size difference.

Do u guys think it is safe ? If i have to move the Tig out , i am left with a small quarantine tank which i hope he would not need to end up there.
Ur thoughts will be very much appreciated.

Here is a short vid to help see the size difference

I can't get my eyes off of the tank to observe any aggression from the Tig

The paddies may be 5" but a lot of this size is the paddle, so they look small enough and vulnerable to the tig's swallowing attempt.

If you can keep the tig extremely well fed, it'd be less of a gamble.

Overall, it is a gamble that may or may not pay off for you.

If worried, install a tank divider.

thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter appreciate the thoughts man, i have put the tig on a separate tank now until the Paddles grow bigger then mix them back together.

I think the tig was eventually gonna eat them in one or couple days, i always see him move his whiskers when the paddles move aroundthe Tig like he does to feeders. I couldnt sleep knowing that til i moved out the Tig cat.

Got a clearer vid to see their size difference:

Nice roomy tank. Thank you for this.

It's your business how to feed your tig but I just thought I'd mention that tigs need not live feeder fish at all. It's too risky for one big reason. If you have your tig isolated, now is the good time to train it to take non-live feed.

Cute paddles. American? Can't be the almost extinct Chinese unless these are available from farms in eastern Asia? Almost no one ever keeps paddles in our hobby. It'd be awesome of you to create a thread-blog on your paddlefish journey for all of us to learn and enjoy along with you. Are they trained to take pellets or flakes now?

Took ur advice and put the Tig in a solo tank, he is already eating river shrimps and i realized its better to keep the Tig in smaller tanks . Way easier to power feed him and make sure he is eating well. Just had a big supper.

I believe the paddles are American although i live in Indonesia . AFAIK Chinese Paddlefish looks more slender and have longer snout. I will post a journey thread for these paddles, under which sub-forum should i have it posted? Coldwater Fish i guess? I have not feed them anything other than bloodworms. I plan to stick with BW until they reach 10" fast then i will start converting them to pellets/flakes. I don't want to try other food yet such as shrimp cuts because they might have a problem swallowing those foods at their size.

I am glad to read this.

Just one more knee jerk on the tig - is feeding shrimp to your tig an informed decision on your part? There are two schools of thought on this.

If feeding a lot of shrimp, a second warning would involve thiaminase and the need to feed the tig high quality pellets or presoak feed in VitaChem or a similar supplement, otherwise risk developing vitamin B1 deficiency.

... To paddles:

I am not sure of the sub-forum. kno4te kno4te ?

I thought paddles come from farms already accustomed to feeding on dry feed.

Damn, i did not know that . i feed most of my fishes with this kind of small river shrimps:

and high protein sinking pellets (but some of my cats dont wanna take pellets yet, including my phantom rtc and piraiba so they fully eat shrimp for now).
Is it just bad for catfish or all fish?
This diet is very popular around here to enhance Super Red Arowana coloration and i keep a couple of them.
Sorry to ask again but i just want to make sure , is it bad having them on FULL Shrimp Diet? what if i mix their diet with other food? Or do you recommend to completely avoid giving shrimp.

i Would love to feed my tig sinking pellets, i always stock up a lot of sinking pellets. Problem is he was super skinny when he came in (got me worried) and he did not want to hit on the pellets when i gave him. Do u think i should start starving him until the Tig start accepting pellets since he gained some fat and size already?

I will definitely try to get my paddles to eat floating pellets once they reach 10". I have done some research that they can grow 1" a week , not sure about this since only a few sites provide info on Paddles' growth.

Wow! Paddlefish I’ve not heard of anyone keeping it yet. Quite rare how did you get them?
