Just wondering if anyone has done this before.

I ordered a tig last night from Ichiban after years of drooling and reading about them - but not much on tankmate interaction.

Currently bound for a 5'x2'. He is at 3" so will go in grow out until he is 5-6" like the juruense.

Then they are bound for an 8'x4'x2'.

I also have a couple bass, a motoro, a couple silver dollars and a brycon.

Hoping this will be okay - Im thinking that a LOT of flow plus a lack of "territory markers" might ease aggression.

Thanks for any info

IME you will be gambling. It may be only small or seldom fights here and there at the start or a bit down the road but eventually it will be a fight to death in anything smaller than say a few 1000 gal.

Not promising there - I love both of these catfish too much.

Would hate to have to give one up.

I agree ull most likely end up with one in the end, small tigs can be very delicate also. In my experience "show cats" are best housed alone or with very very few open or top water tank mates.

Well I have set up a quarantine with an eheim, planning on 50% WC every other day.

The tank he will be going in has lots of space - it doesnt sound like it, but the fish rarely interact.

Its very tall as well, the bass and brycon really dont enter the lower third of the tank.

It is worth a try, Fleshy, at least as a learning experience but IMHO only if you have a solid plan for when things don't work out. If you plan to keep both for life, as is normally done, I am afraid even a 1000-2000 gal intex pool will not hold a 2' tig and a 2' jur together as these adults consider ~ hundreds of sq feet, if not more, their territory.

Take care with "very tall" tanks too as these are "very" prone to DO issues whilst tigs and jurs are rheophilic and need high DO.

You can certainly try, but I don't see it working out long term. Tigs and jurs are both EXTREMELY aggressive toward and intolerant of other fish that look like them. IMO, it's not a case of if the relationship breaks down, but when.

I have a 30" tig and put an 18" marble sailfin cat in They did tolerate each other but barbels were bitten off frequently Tank is 10x4 so they did have room

Going to just see what happens.

Hopefully at this size with a couple hiding spaces and lots of flow we will be okay.

Either way I like both fish too much to get rid of - Ill end up with a species tank if they cant cohab at somepoint.

Currently have a 22"+ tig and a 22"+ jur in a 108"x30"x31" they have been together in this tank for over 2 yrs with no problems other than minor chasing each other. It can work depending on the fish's temperament...
