tigrinus wont eat

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got 2 tigrinus cats obout 5 days ago and up to this point I havent seen them eat anything yet. These are the first that I have kept, and I understand that very small ones are very hard to keep. These are not very small rather both are about 10" and appear to be in good shape. I have tried night crawlers, shrimp, Hikari carnivore pellets and some frozen cubes ( squid and clams ) Any suggestions or anyone with personal experience would really be appreciated.

Sorry, I put this thread in the wrong forum before.

it takes a bit of time to get them feeding some times up to 2 weeks

try feeding them at night about 2 am as thats when they should be swimming around looking for food

try frozen peeled prawn and mussel broken into bite size bits if alelse fails go and buy 100 neons and they will all be gone in the morning

They may just be under a little bit of stress....Give them a few more days...They will eat when they get really hungry....

I agree, feed them at night when you have the lights off. They are most active after dark. Just drop a few market shrimp in their and you'll be surprised they will be gone in the morning =-)

When getting wild-caught fish to eat, here are 2 methods I use..

'Worm-Chops'.. Get some forceps and scissors, and chop all the worms into little bite-size peices.. Works better on a bare-bottom tank, right before lights out.. Come back in a few hours and they are usually gone. (They can sense the dead worms and they also use their streamers to sense movement in the water)

'Tap-a-Tail'.. The few times I have imported wild Tigs or Juruenses, I have used the Tap-a-Tail method.. Get yourself a half night-crawler on your forceps, and simply dip it into the tank and tap streamers of the fish.. Usually they will whip around and eat whatever brushes up against their streamers. However, you may have to resort in dangling the worm right BELOW the mouth of the Tig as well, brushing his whiskers..

Make sure your 02 levels are nice and high, and your water quality is in tip top shape!

Good Luck!

its probably just getting used to its new environment.. sometimes it takes more time for a fish to get settled.. mine was that way for about a week, after that its eat eat eat :)

just keep trying to put food but remove it after a couple of minutes if he still doesn't eat it.. i feed mine market shrimp and mussels ;)

I wish you all the luck. As Miles said "keep your water in tip top shape" Don't over feed the tigs.
