I will be starting my plywood tank this weekend. However, since this tank will be with me for years to come, I wanted to make it different. I stumbled on this guy's tiki aquarium, which is actually a computer (wierd but cool)! I have attached a picture of HIS AQUARIUM (not mine)

I want to do the same thing, with a rectangular plywood tank, on a much larger scale. The peice of glass that I own is a 9/16" thk 78.5" L x 22.25" H. I will probably be giving the tank about 24-30" of width. I have attached as well a sketch of what its gonna look like..

Constructive crits are very welcome.

Looks very good. I love the idea. An amazon bio-type would suit this style tank very nicely. But crafting the hood would be time consuming and worth it.

tiki for a background, but so fish can swim thourgh his mouth and down his throat, and down his throat is an opening to the tank again.

Went though the whole thread on that tikki aquarium/computer. Very amazing work. That guy is one heck of a fabricator, not much of a fish keeper though. 5 pirahna? That tank can't be more then 20g.

Do it. I love the open mouth and teeth idea. Anyone who knows me knows that I love creative stuff like this.
Idea: Maybe carve the eyes deep so you can insert some red/yellow lights (LED's = no heat). If your tank is planted this will make a nice contrast.

I agree....the guy is not much of a fish keeper.....those p's are def dead by now.

I have redrawn this thing like 40 times and I am pretty sure how im going to design it...

NO plants for me....I own a pacu.... =(

I stay away from fake plants as well because they usually start disintegrating and leave floaters for days. I am thinking of just buying some driftwood off of ebay for decorations.

I will be starting on this very soon. For the hood, i am probably going to go with paper mache (i learned how to do it in the six grade once). I will definitely be taking picture of this process.

The glowing eyes are going to be a definite must. I will have to remember to leave a pocket behind the eyes for them.

if u'r going to do paper mache i'd definitely consider coating it with fiberglass. the paper mache as soon as it gets wet will disintegrate. gl though great idea

Instead of paper mache why not carve it out of foam then coat it with cement or resin or paint .Your options are endless and it will be super light weight!

Cant wait to see it. I'm imagining the driftwood will look great because it will match the tone of the Tiki. However, that may entail a lot of overall brown color and you'll probably need to find some way to out contrast your scene. If the eye's are red it may make the whole scene "read" in the red end. Some brite blue or yellow sand (with say, blue stones) may throw that off and give you a heavy cross spectrum of color.

Sorry, I get carried away with this sort of stuff.

I got plans for an underwater diorama going on now. Started pricing materials today.
