ok so he has been eating awesome since i brought i him home yesterday, and has already made a mountain in the tank, but he looks really grey and his stripes arent as pronounced as they were. yesterday he was dark black and white, now his stripes are barely noticable. is this normal? i swear i watched him change color to bright again and now he is grey again. do they do this? is it stress? i changed the water and fed him.

They change there colors when there stressed. I will say that they darken up better over a darker gravel? what color is your gravel? have you checked your ph yet? They tend to like a bit higher ph than south american cichlids. You might wanna add a small amount of aquarium salt to help relieve stress. As long as hes still eatting and swimming aroung you have nothing to worry about. Fish tend to get stressed when they are introduced to a new tank. Hope this info helped!

thanks, ive noticed he changes color quite ofter. he gets really colorful when i start feeding him and early in the AM. sometimes i can barely make out his stripes, but when he sees me go for food he colors up again
