I had these a number of years back, and used them almost like dithers, because they were fast, would shoal and keep more aggressive cichlids occupied. The best one I saw was entered into the ACA Chicago convention competition a decade or so ago, its colors were amazing and it was a ver large specimen.
Was neve able to capture their true beauty in my tanks though.

Nice pick up and my favorite tilapia.I'm not sure which name they are using for them these days,Oreochromis,Sarotherodon or whatever but I had one years ago that grew to be the boss of my tank.Mine grew to about fifteen inches and the reds and pale blue coloring was quite impressive.
Dovii is 6-7 inch, currently with a pair of midevils one being rockys son and 10-11 inch female 8 inch. 2 smaller midevil 5-7 inch, 2 5 star generals 6-7 inch, 2 jd 2.5 inch, 1 small Vieja 2 inch, gibbi 14 inch, four lined pim 7-8 inch, suncat 12 inch. 3 inch umbee.
All equally aggressive and any that don't get on will be divided then removed, ideally the Dovii will ignore 3-4 tankmates long term but who knows, he has lived with fish his whole life and never shows aggression atm.
Very rare for any to even have a ripped fin although the suncat and big midevil have some serious hatred for each other and lip lock all the time.
