What Tilapia / Oreochromis ssp are illegal / legal in the US?

Please, no "I think this or that" Please have accurate info.

I am considering buying some of the ones that are offered on Aquabid occassionally.

Have you checked out the Restricted Species lists, by state, in the FAQ forum?

I have, and for DC, there is no list, and for Mass, they say all aquarium fish are exempt, including goldfish but not tilapia.

Which brings me to my original question - Tilapia versus Oreochromis... See my point? Buttikoferi are frequently seen in almost all the LFS. But they are "Tilapia" per se.

This is why I asked.

Moreover, if Mass does not consider Tilapia an aquarium fish, what is it?? Tilapia are NOT on the restricted list given there...

depends on what tilapia you are talking about. A tilapia generally like a nile tilapia usually are not considered aquarium fish. However other variants of tilapias can be aquiarum fish. In FL nile tilapia is restricted.
