tile bottom

i might do black tile at the bottom of my tank. obviously im gonna have to cut the tile. but my question is should i just wash it off before i put it in the tank or soak it for a few days then put it in the tank?

also would ceramic or porcelin tile be better?

Washing should do just fine, and you can use any tile kind you like. I use slate in my tanks-

slate is nice, i like porcelain too. i've been thinking of doing a tile bottomed tank, but i still like river rocks too..

Slate will literally 'rust' if it's submerged. Just a quick rinse is fine. I used black marble and it looked sweet!

ive been using the same slate tile in my tanks for the last year and a half and it hasnt "rusted' away

Guess it depends on the source. Slate sold at many home improvement stores isn't really slate. I've read it's various types of ground up stone, some of which contains iron. That in turn oxides when left under water. I've even seen slate tiles out of water have some orange rusting to them.

ah i c. my parents paid extra for natural slate tile when we got our house built and its the same tile i use
