Over the past year I have seen tile in a lot of tanks on here and they all look awesome. I was thinking about converting my 270 to tile while fixing a small leak at the same time.

I did a little Googling and see that some people say certain tile raises PH, etc. I'm wanting to do Black Marble Tile in 12x12 squares, or If I can go bigger I will. What do you all recommend to use? What will I need to complete this project? This is my Dat and Tig tank with a few pbass in there as well. I currently have small river rock and when those fish get roudy, the water get cloudy with all the garbage and them royal plecos dont help the matter with all the wood they eat and leave behind which I will be putting them in a different tank if I do this. Im REALLY wanting to show the Tig off more than anything and have a clean tank once again. I did the no substrate, then partial and now back to gravel. Even with all the canister filters and koralinas in the 270, the water still nasty looking.

Thanks :D

I use ceramic tile for my tank. Didn't really mess with my PH one bit. I would think marble would raise the PH a little bit. I plan on marble tiling my 215gal. I'll let you know the PH results in a couple of days. All you would need is the tile for the bottom of your tank.

This is the ceramic tile I use inside my Tig tank.

I like the last one. But I don't seal it with anything. Just cut, wash and drop.

And this one

Maybe too much white?

Also, I have PVC hiding my heaters, what spray paint can I use to paint it without harming fish? Im sure there is a safe paint out there somewhere, but not sure if its at Lowes or Home Depot.

Yeah, to much white for my taste. As for spray paint, Kyrlon fusion works. Been using it for a while for my heaters guards.

Looks good. Im going to Lowes right after the gym to get this started.

I have a slight leak, tank is acrylic. Its on the bottom of the tank. What is the fastest drying I can get to patch the hole with another piece of acrylic?

Well I got started on it last night, went to Lowes, they didnt have black at all, it was special order only. So I went with a creme color, I forget the name but I'll post pics later. Had them cut the tile to what I needed. Came home, drained the tank, moved the fish, etc. This tank used to have I guess a sump or whatever installed below it and 2 5" round holes cut on the bottom of the tank. The owner then used a 2" think piece of acrylic and covered it up from the inside. I initially thought he just used sylicone and was just going to pop the blocks off and patch it. But he did use acrylic solvent. So, I wasnt able to lay the tile down flush. I got three whole pieces in at 12x12. The rest I has to take measurements again and today after work I'm going back to Lowes to have them cut the tile again. I fixed the small leak in the process. I started at 10pm last night and was done by 3am. Was a long night. So today, hopefully all I have to do is lay the tile down and be done with it. I rearranged the filter out/returns hoses and heaters and koralinas to look more presentable as well. Only thing I have to add to the tank is something a little heavy to hold down the tile which will sit on top of the 2 blocks inside the tanks, prolly use texas holey rock unless someone can recommend something that cures underwater to at least hold the tile down from the fish moving it. Hopefully I will be posting photos tonight. All the fish made it, was really worried about the Tig, I seem to have bad luck with them but so far this 18"er is a tough one.
