I want to make a 100g tank for grow outs and to make a nice planted tank
and I have been trying to keep it very low cost and was wondering if I could seal is with tile
my brother is a tiler by trade so tile is free and silicone is cheap
me and him were talking today and got thinking about making a box out of plywood and using silicone, secure the tiles to the inside and grout using more silicone, would flexing not make this possible? I was thinking for bracing one using 2x1's at the top 4 to be exact

if this is possible the only thing tank wise need might be glass, but I may even have some thick enough!

dimensions are 48x24x20 (lwh)

thanks!

I think you get on the internet and look for a cheap 75 gallon tank that's used. You should be able to get one for less then $100 and that's right on par with what you are going to spend on a DIY 100 gallon.

The thing that I have seen with DIY tanks is that they are not really worth it unless you go over the standard sizes. So 300 gallons plus or you need an odd size.

So unless you can not get a used tank for cheap I would go as large as you can on the build and get a pond liner to seal it with. that's going to be about the cheapest way.

Im in canada on a small island so everything is more expensive, a 135g is $580 just the tank
so custom equals cheaper and I already have all of the stuff, plywood, glass, screws, glue, silicon and zalvar is on sale right now so soon to pick that up

this will be a test until the bigger one around christmas

Just make sure the tile isnt porous. Other than that I see no problem. I got some stone at my parents house, and I do want the turtles tank bigger. Thanks alot:irked: ;)
