I just saw pics of a tank with tile on the bottom and i thought it was pretty nice not to mention it seems like less maintenance than sand.. What do you think? Which would my bichirs and florida gars appreciate more? Thanks for your opinions.

Less maintenance as in how? Both let crap sit on top. if the tile isnt "grouted" or sealed crap will get under neath it. Sand can get sucked up via the filter. Tile can grow algae on it and require you to scrub the tile floor.

IMO ull see more crap on tile because it has no place to hide. Sands more natural anyway

K thanks for your opinions :)

Sand is more maintenance because you have to churn it every month or two.

well hopefully youll be getting into your tank more than every month or two so that shouldnt be a problem.

PS: you asked about their enjoyment and Bichirs would enjoy sand more than tile to dig in once in a while....

If you want a more natural look and feel to the tank i would definitely go with sand... tile imo just doesn't look right...

tile looks good but so does sand. all my tanks are sand but im about to do tile on one.

oh and ben, you dont have to touch the sand except to siphon poo off of it. you dont need to mix it.
