so I was going to do some kind of black sand for my polyperus tank, but now I think I am just going to do black tile. What is the best way to cut tile? Also any types I should stay away from?

I'd probably stay away from anything that has a coating on it, although it's most likely safe I just wouldn't.
As far as cutting you can buy a tile cutter or have it cut at just about any home improvement store, just depends on the thickness IIRC. It's been a good which since I laid tile.

depending how thick the tile is you can get tile cutters for not alot of money in most d.i.y stores,would do the vinegar test on the tile tho before using it just to make sure it wont leech anything,but cant see problems with ceramic tiles.
