I have just removed all the gravel from my tank so it is currently bare bottom.

I am going to put tiles in, but was wondering if i should put the tiles straight onto the glass, or should i put a layer of sand down first?

Also looking for a new light, i have a 6x2x2 with SA/CA Cichlids, what type of light would they enjoy most? there seems to be so much to choose from and they cost a lot so want to make the right buy!!

thanks

I wouldn't do sand under because when wastes get under the tiles and into the sand the wastes will cause gas pockets in the sand. With tile its best to silicon them down to prevent wastes from getting under them.

thanks for that but i cannot silicone them, i cant empty the tank, nowhere to put my fish!

I have read that people just put them in without silicon like here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...-in-aquarium&p=4988105&viewfull=1#post4988105

but i didnt know if there was any sand under!

I would put the tile down with no sand as sand underneath could also create a pressure point and cause the glass to crack. As far as lighting I would go with Leds. Beamswork led's work great and don't cost that much. I would get a double bright 48" light

thanks

I think the smaller light on longer tank looks good.I did that on 3 tanks.
