Hey all, I am picking up/rescueing an aro tomorrow. It currently has "Tilted (overturned) Gill Covers" issues. Once I get him I will know how bad it is but I was wondering if it comes to a point where I will need to cut the gill overs ( will be the last resort ), will the covers eventually grow back?

Thanks for the help all!

First of all, you need to know the cause of the gill curl.. If it's caused by bad water condition then it can be easily cured by providing pristine water for the fish..
If you really have to remove the curl, be careful not to cut off the hard part(gill plate).. Only cut the soft part..

my red tail has just begun showing signs of gill curl. it is due to high nitrates in the water, which i am currently correcting. you're saying that his condition will correct itself when the water gets cleaned up?

Yes, always keep the water in pristine condition and it can do wonder.. Better yet if you have a powerhead that pushes water out..

i will have to admit that I was pretty surprised how fast things started to change with the water changes. Once I got my aro, I did a 50% water change every other day for the first week. and from there I do 50% water changes every week. And now the aros gills are just perfect!!!
