here is a question i would like to ask you MFKer's who have an Super Red.. how long you notices that your RED turn little red.. what size, time (months) and what were you feeding it?? as i have notices mine too about 18months from the cert date to get little pink on it's gills.. it eats super worms and sometimes some market prawns.. now when i went to a friend's house to see his red it was only 9" with lots of color coming out on it's gills and scales.. all he feed his red is freezed dried krills. problem is that the aro doesn't have a cert that tells when it was chiped or what ever to date it.. but with that size i would guess it takes about 12 months to pump it to that size.. what about your Super Red???

Colouration on SR is depedent on a) quality of the fish b) quality of care and c) quality of food.

At 18", I would expect a SR of good quality to have significant gill plate colour development and rims around scales beginning to thicken as well. I've had reds that had some gill colour development at 7-8 inches.

My recommendation would be to vary the diet in your aro. At this size, a SW-only diet is not necessary. Try to get it on MP, pellets and, if available in your area, the occasional live frog. These foods are all high in carotenoids and will do wonders for your aro's colour. Also, I'd recommend gut-loading the SW with a high quality flake, and a veggie high in carotenoids (yams, carrots, etc.) before feeding.

2x Superworms are mainly for the massive body build so feed the superworms veggie and stuff like Carlos said. :)

Mine started showing color after 1 year, (fin and gill plate area) by 2 years they were very red (scales). Depends on the quality of the red. I reccomend to feed Market prawn/shrimp cut up with shell on tail and head removed. I flash freeze all my seafood before consumption to kill off parasites.

It depends on the quality of the bloodline a lot. I've read that chillis take longer to develop full red compared to blood reds, but who really knows. It's also hard to tell how old the aro is when it's chipped. They don't give you the release date, just the date the aro was chipped. From what Koji was saying a full 7 years is required before full colour has developed.

Here's pics of my chilli before he jumped. He was chipped in December 08. I got him in may/09 and he was 8"/20cm. This was him when I got him and the next pic was just before he died when he was just under 15"/37cm. He died the first week of may this year. He ate superworms and market shrimp and a few pellets. It's important to note that he starved himself for a couple of months at one point, so technically he could have been bigger.

thanks for sharing there..Chaitika.. i also notices that your pic before the red died was showing really red protentials. i would also agree that different lighting on the tank makes a difference on the aro's coloring during pictures taking..

i agreed with what bro bcarlos said.
In addition, keeping red requires a very high level of patience. Like my diablo red,
when i 1st showed it to a friend of mine. He commented that my red won't turn red... maybe yellowish colour only. But i told myself to groom it to the best. And after 1 yrs, it begin to fruit.....

check the development...
