Time is GOOD!

Since this was my first "real" tank, I now know that TIME IS A GOOD THING! Even though you REALLY want to get all those "cool" fish, it is better off in the long run to get a couple of 30 cent fish and give them about a week, better that then paying 5-30 dollars for something cool right off the bat and having it die.

Takes more than a week to cycle a tank unless you seed it, but you're on the right track.

I prefer taking solid material from an established tank. Instant cycle
I have actually never cycled a tank. I got my first fish before I knew anything about cycling, the fish lived through it, and I just started every tank I had with stuff from another one...lol
