So, I've had my red wolf for a bit over 4 months and I think it's a great little fish.
However, it has always been fairly timid and ever since I moved him to a bigger tank, he's pretty much always hiding.
With the lights out and him thinking I'm not in the room, he's out and swimming... but as soon as he notices me, it's back to his hideout.

I was thinking of getting some small tetras as dither fish, but it's a bit risky

Anything I can do to get him to be less timid?

I was given a small purple wolf that was timid but now fully mature flares up at some of it's tankmates lol. Adding the dithers would help but the wolf will get bolder as it matures.

Always risky adding smaller fish. Can try some larger barbs for sure like astyanax that get a little more robust.

Add some plants and cover. Might help to give it some reassurance.

Do you currently have any tank mates with the red wolf? My friend and I both have red wolfs, mines with just a red tail shark that's always hidden and he kept his with polypterus and a tire track eel. His would always hide and would only come out during feeding, mine is much more active. From my experience if you put your wolf with tank mates he's going to hide more.
