Fish sometimes accidentally eat others feces and spits it back out...but my tin foil seems to love eating it and swallows it...it makes me want to throw up. but other than that...is it harmful/normal?

eww yea I have a few random goldfish hangin in my tank with my cats, plecos and fronstosas and when my plecos are "throwing a party with streamers" the goldfish eats it! yuck. Im curious too, sorry I couldnt help, Im just as curious

Maybe it's the "tasty turd" syndrome!! :D:D
If they don't like it they spit just as we do. If they don't, well................. guess they like it, ................unlike us.
Just because they don't spit it out does not mean they really "eat" it. Sometimes they just pass it through the gills.

If you feed your fish everyday there is a LOT of undigested food in their faeces so its not as silly as you might think. A large percent of fish "waste" is actually excreted through their gills (ie ammonia).

Yeah, take my Geo. for instance. He "eats" mouthfuls of sand, but only "ingests" what is edible, the rest gets diverted through the gill plates.
He's the major player here, but all the fish do the same thing to some extent.

Fish eat poo due to a natural instinct to grab the food or another meal may not come for a few more days. My 4" BN plec produces 6" turds they get caught on the driftwood and signal that he's had a good night.

My bala shark used to eat my guppies poo. It wasn't pleasant.
The worst part with my Bala Sharks is that they eat the poo as almost any fish would, but then leave it in there for a second on average (And when you time it, its a long time to be sitting in your mouth) and blow it all out in broken up shreds.

I never noticed that. Thank goodness I never watched longer.
