I have 4 Tinfoil Barbs 6-7" and bright and beautiful, although they do seem to be rather stupid reminding me of those birds in finding nemo.
They all have deep rich reds in the fins, but the black on the dorsal is where my question comes in.
Its obvious that they can fluctuate how black the tip of the dorsal is, since sometimes its there and sometimes its almost gone. But I have one Barb, that is a bit bigger than the others even though they were all acquired at the same time, bigger in both length and girth. Its dorsal stays almost completely black all the time.
Is the blackness of the dorsal related to dominance at all? How about breeding? Or is the male/female have the darker back dorsal? It definately seems to be the alpha fish of the group, rarely fighting with the others and seems to remain in front of the others, but the others squabble alot with eachother (not hardcore fights, but the usual barb brawls).
