Tinfoil Bard diet

Anyone else tinfoil barb not eat floating food? They eat very little of it. Maybe I just buy sinking? Any quality sinking food tinfoils eat in bulk? Or is it possible my water is too hard for them? Its around 8.0.

ive had this problem with a tinfoil with a deformed (downturned) mouth hes doing just fine eating sinking pellets and peas. ive had him for 14 years now. an able body tinfoil not gluttonously eating from the surface would be weird though

they dont look deformed but they have to do some acrobatics to eat food from the surface
