My 210 is right next to two large windows (46"X58"). I was thinking of tinting them to cut down on the UV's. This way I could open my blinds again.:nilly: Does anyone have any experience on this?

PS. I do have a UV light (18watt) running but it is no competition for full sun exposure.

I am having my bedroom windows replaced in a few weeks.. having very tinted glass ... you look out normal but stops the UV light offers privacy and looks dark... i can do this because i have enough light in the room from big sliding doors.. i hope it will be okay... would love to hear others opinion too..

Why not just tint your tank on the sides the sun is exposed to it... Its easily removable as well.

I second less cost and easier.

I tinted the sliders in my dining room they were letting in too much light near my tanks. No big deal helped big time. Stuff was cheap and easy to find and install.

Howdy,

Tinting windows will not affect UV-absorption, because tinting targets visible wavelength, whereas UV is invisible.

Furthermore, common window glass is mostly soda-lime glass, which has poor UV permeability anyways. Tinting, even with a UV-impermeable film, is irrelevant in that case.

However, tinting will reduce light transmission in wavelengths suitable for photosynthesis, and, therefore, has potential to reduce algae growth. So do curtains. :)
