I found tiny red worms in the canister filters of my south american cichlid tank. About a quarter inch long and very slender. Any idea what these might be?

Round or flat, smooth or segmented, free swimming or clinging?

They move, so not poop, very wriggly, seem to have fine hairs on them, I would say clingy, because they are always stuck to stuff, round, not flat, I think segmented

Yeah, what the hell is it???? Does anyone know?? I have millions of those tiny things in my biological filter for my koi pond.
But it does not seem to create any harm or affect to my fishes.
(thank god!)

I have those in the sand of my saltwater tank. But those are different. I think blood worms may be a reasonable guess. Can you take a pic?

ive seen them in my little hex that i got from my cousin i just filled it the rest of the way up added salt and filter.. never seen them again.. toke them to my LFS they said mosqito larvae..

There are several types of annelid worms that are like tiny tubifex worms and can be anything from dead white to greenish black, they feed on detritus and are actually good for your biomedia as they burrow around in it and break up bacterial clumps that might otherwise die. If this is what they are I would leave them alone, they won't hurt your fish and make good food for very small fry.
