So I emptied out an opaque bin, maybe 18gal filled. I had Manga & other books in there for the move & today I finally got around to moving the stuff out. I got the bright idea of taking the bin outside & filling it up with water. I tossed in Red Root Floaters, bit of Duckweed, bit of Java Moss around a metal weight & some Salvinia Minima. Hoping the plants grow very well so I can sell the floaters & use the Java Moss for a 'moss tree'. ^.^

Anyone else have a tiny pond mainly for plant grow out? Any pics of yours? Any of them clear bins?
I'm not planing on having any fish in there, unless my BF tosses in a Goldfish or two w/o telling me.

a metal weight
Other than potential metal contamination from this (lead?) this is a fine idea. Prepare for all sorts of invaders like mosquito larvae and parasites from fish poo and whatever other bug crawls in. These are always fun, but typically once it goes outdoors, I keep it outdoors. Except for my daphnia cultures.

Tell your boyfriend that putting a goldfish into an 18gal tank is a death sentence. Way too small. Especially without filtration, since the plants will deoxygenate the water every night.

It's a metal, chrome coated prong section off a dog's prong collar. I just needed something to get the plant to sink. Will switch it with a rock tomorrow.
I don't like bugs and all that, so I plan on doing lots of cleaning on it. I also have an extra window screen I will place on it tomorrow to keep our giant mountain Mosquitoes out. Though it's metal screening, should be fine as long as it don't rain too often and dries fast after it does.

get a small air bubbler and a small box filter or corner filter and you can add some guppies to it.This will take care of your mosquito issues and give you something else to look at in it.
