So I went to feed fish today and on my tank lid support bar I noticed tiny white ant type things on it, this is the first time I've seen them in 20 odd years keeping fish. I know this is my first post but any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

That would be my first guess. I just don't know if they are able to survive on the lid.

Springtails are harmless. They are kind of like silverfish (the bug). They eat decaying material, fungi, and vegetable matter. They do multiply fast, and are used in terrariums, and vivariums for a clean up crew. They are a type of isopod (i think).

Anyway, I will stop my rambling and get to the point. Is this what they look like?

They are moving around yes, there almost bright white and look abit like ants. That's about the best pic I can get.

Ok. Most Likely Springtails. Nobody is great at stuff like that here, but Deadeye Deadeye , and Kelly_Aquatics Kelly_Aquatics may be better than I am.

Thanks for the help mate much appreciated. My wife was having kittens lol and had no clue what they were.

Springtails sound right. I’m better at the more aquatic stuff, but your guess seems right.

I have these water flees I believe near the top of the water on my tank. I think they just start growing once you put water in the tank. The ones I have are even smaller and will get somepictues once i get back in town
