i noticed yesterday that there is quite a lot of tiny white worms about a mm in length and thin as hair not only riggling on the glass but in the water aswell. current stock in the tank is two 12+' jaguar cichlids. the tank is only a few weeks old and bought brand new. i did a 60% wc today and added a 6% plec wich seems to be eating them off the glass. should i keep doing large daily wc or is there a treatment out there i can buy?

........and planarians eat bacteria and/or decaying matter. If your tank is cycling, doing large water changes will make it take longer to complete the cycle. However if you do do the water changes, your bacteria and bad nutrient levels will decrease, reducing your numbers of planarians. Can't win for losing! Wipe down the glass before doing the water changes to get as many of them out as possible. Though they don't do any harm to your fish, they can be a sign that some parasites or protozoans are also thriving that CAN harm your fish. """This would be a good time to throw on that UV sterilizer or ozone reactor that you have had sitting in the basement !!! """

Planaria is a flat worm, these are round worms of the turbatrix family related to vinagar worms. They feed on bacteria in fish excrament. They are harmless non parasitic worms, to get rid of them do several complete gravel celannings and they will go away. While they pose direct threat they are a sign that somthing isn't right. I would continue with your weekly water changes and as mnetioned clean the subtrate and preform regular filter maintance. A clean tank is a healthy tank.
