Hi chaps. Well i recently went on yet another stupid fish spree and along with a few geo's, whilst browsing i spotted a Hujeta in a tank with thousands of White Cloud mountain Minnows. Only a 3" chap but he look FAT. Apparently it was the last one they had and it had jumped the fence and made for the sanctuary of a tank of minnows. Whilst within the Minnow tank he FEASTED on the villagers...sorry...Minnows. So there i was with a fat Hujeta and though 'hmm lance fish, everyone likes lance fish'. Well so far all the lance fish i have fed have simply been too big. To the point where i was worried once or twice, during feeding time that the Tat's or even the Pike would think 'crap we got a live one boyz!' and feast. 3" lance vs 3" Hujeta. Hard to tell the difference if you're a fish. Maybe.

So the long and the short of it is, how the devil, should i persuade a small Hujeta, who has had so many Villagers he no longer recognises food that is dead.

Oh and i apologies for the style of post. i'm watching Bill Bailey and he is far too funny. If you know who i am talking about then everything above makes a small amount of sense. If you don't then i highly recommend 'Part troll'.

You could try to starve him a little don't give him food for a good 4 days then try tossing in some kind of prepared food and see how he reacts

I would try to feed it

Shrimp, krill, fish fillets, squid and you could give earthworms a try

I got mine converted onto Wardley Jumbo Krill (freeze dried). I just didn't feed them anything but and within two weeks they were fully converted and won't really take live. They seem to prefer that brand over others.

i tried for 2 weeks with the starve and feed only dead routine. And mine would not break in that amount of time. So i went back to feeders. i enjoy it more as well, so all is good.

they like foods that float.
i got all of mine which were on an all feeder diet onto pellets without much effort.
you just gotta starve him and not give in.

well, he's getting quite brave and considering generally, it's quite skittish and doesn't instantly dart from my hand during feeding shows he might be getting hungy... i'm hoping to get it onto blood worm fairly soon. I use Cichlid pellets and sinking pellets for my Geo's and the Hujeta seems to be getting braver.

Cheers for your help chaps. They are very interesting top dwellers and i would hate to see it go wrong because i have not got the desired live food.

mine started to devour freeze dried krill when there was another fish in the tank that would compete for it.

thats how i did it
