This afternoon i was at a friends house, when i noticed that one of their African cichlids had been practically killed (tooooo many cichlids in toooo small a tank). i recently had a tank open up, so i offered to try and save it.

basically
1) fins are COMPLETELY torn (not fin rot, rather harassment)
2) will not move tail
3) is beginning to get some type of white body slime on tail, probably stress related.

unfortunately, the people didn't have any test kits, making it nearly impossible to know what kind of water the fish was coming out of. I'm guessing that it was liquid rock, because they normally do fill-ups, not water changes:nilly:(i made sure to introduce it into the new set-up very slowly)

at the moment it is in my 10 gal fish/plant hospital tank. I treated the water with melafix, considering the fins and developing body slime. I put in a little cave, and it's been hanging out in there since i brought it home. I've also put some sinking pellets inside the cave (from which it does not move), in hopes that it can eat if it needs to.

is there anything else i should do for it? Medication recommendations? I know that a lot of issues can be solved with water changes, increased temperature, and salt. Would adding extra cichlid salt (is there really a difference?)help or hurt?

at the moment i don't have any staple pre made cichlid flakes/pellets, and the weather is really bad (+ rear wheel drive:nilly:), so i won't be able to get out tomorrow (sat). I do have blood worms/brine shrimp as well as my other "staple" foods for my other non-cichlids, so i should be good until the storm ends.

are there any other things i should be doing/not doing? is there a better medication that i should use? would extra salt help?
Thank you in advance for your help.

I would normally say pimafix/melafix along with a lot of WC's, but can't say for sure judging from the symptom #3

why not say "SICKLID"?????

do a lot of water changes on a 10 gallon io would do a 3 gallon water change every treatment i would use marcyn after his parasites go away use an aquarium salt mix and slowly adjust him to this
