I have a 270g (6Lx2Wx3T) with roughly 20 peacocks in it and two mbuna. 6 of these peacocks I purchased as adults while the rest are just entering adulthood. I thought I had picked out all males but as they grew up 4 tuned out to be female. I have not measured but I would venture to say the large ones range from 5-6" and the smaller ones range from about 2.5-4".
Two of the large peacocks have decided to take turns relentlessly chasing all the others into the corners, most of the time even the females. While one is out the other sits in a cave and waits his turn. This goes on 24/7 and I have tried redecorating and leaving the lights on all night.
They are all still eating well, but once the food is gone the two dominant males go back to ushering all the others back into the top rear and the corners where they are to spend the rest of the day.
My question is: where did I go wrong?
Should I not have mixed the small with the large? Should I have already torn down the decoration so that I can catch the females? I dont know what else to do, and have a nice slate fortress about 1.5' tall and running the full length of the tank, so constant redecorating is not an option.
Thank you for taking out the time to listen to my woes, I like to make sure I add all the details just in case any bit of the extra info helps to solve the problem.
