Hey guys I am just starting to get into the nature aquaria look. For the last 15 years it has been colored gravel and plastic plants. I was out of the hobby for around 5 years though.

I curently have a 20 gallon that has some crypt wendetti red as well as java fern that is doing well. No Co2 injection, and I did change the hood light for a 18" Marine Light designed for coral and planted tanks.

So now for the fun, I have a 55 gal that we just got as a weding present. I do like the ADA products but am a bit floored by the price! Is there any thing that is cost efective for the beginer? I did get one 15-20 lbs bag of the malyan ada soil and spent 34 bucks on it. I saw that seachem is coming out with the black sand and florite. Is this a good medium? Please help the beginer!! I would like to go for the sandy river bank look. I am lost Please help. Also for Co2 injection has any one used the red sea brand kit? The store I usually go to only sells the ADA stuff and it is pricy for a kit that you cant even use a rechargeable bottle on. Please halp again as I am a bit lost.

To start off with, please read the stickies. They are there for a reason.

Now, you need to inform us of what you would like to setup, high lighting, or low lighting. Next, what livestock you wish to have. Also, what type of filtration you will be running. As to the Seachem sand and flourite, they have both been out for many years.
