I have 2 Polypterus senegalus a male about 9" and a female 7" and want to know what conditions and things are needed for them to breed. I have been breeding cichlids in the same tank the past couple months but recently got rid of all of them to make the tank more comfortable for my bichirs. about 2 months ago my male would follow the female everywhere in the tank staying by her side and nudging her back for hours at a time. now I have put sand substrate in the tank as well as 3 bushy short plants in one corner because I read that is what they will lay the eggs on but other then that I have no idea what to do or what to look for. Thanks for any info
also I read that they may not be mature enough until at least 8" so I may need to wait a bit longer but thought I would start doing some research so I am prepared
