tips on breeding yellow labs

I only have 1 2"m/1 1.5"f lab that bred a few weeks ago. Didn't have to do anything special to make it happen, although the spawn did follow a 70%ish water change and I had just put some cucumber in the tank for the first time. The day after the change I noticed the female holding, which looks like a bulge in the throat.

After about 2 weeks, I pulled the female out to put in her own tank as she was getting pretty beat up by the male, which is why you want so many females per male; it spreads out the aggression.

1 week after pulling the female, she still wasn't improving probably due to not eating, and so I stripped the fry. fill a small glass (I used a mason jar) with tank water, net the fish, and then hold her vertically face-down and repeatedly dip her head into the jar. I tried to use a bent out paperclip to open her mouth with little success, and so I just kept dipping her. After a minute or two I had 16 fry in a glass, and put the female back in the main tank. Took her about 2 days to start eating again, and now 1 week yesterday after putting her back in, the male is trying to go again.

You really don't have to do much to get them to breed, although having many females will make it less stressful on them.
