Long story short... I originally had a male FH introduced to a tank that had a small female Texas and it was instant chemistry. It was an awesome coincidence. The male unfortunately didn't stick around long (traumatic moment to say the least... but anyway,) so I ended up moving the female Texas to my 125 and bought another FH to be housed in the 72 all by himself. So far so good with him... some have you have seen pics in my other post.

So anyway, back to my question... I either wanted the female texas to get a little bit larger "or" I might even be in the market for a female FH in the future; nevertheless, I really don't want to lose another fish (especially ones that can be as expensive as some FH's) so what tips can anyone provide in introducing a potential female mate?

Thanks in advance for the advice... when I originally got into the hobby a long time ago, forums like this weren't really around. Now, coming back from a really long hiatus, these types of resources have become extremely helpful.

I always found it easiest to introduce a male into a females tank. The other way around usually stresses the female out and may make her a bit skittish. Take a divider and put the male on one side, the female on the other. Watch what the female does. If she starts flaring and tail slapping, wait a couple days until she's calmed down. Remove the divider and watch how they interact. Lip locking should occur but if they start inflicting heavy damage to one another than separate and wait a week or two before removing the divider again.
