Hi MFK, its been a while since i've posted here.:) I wanted to ask a few questions on this dream tank i wanted.
Anyway i have a tank, my uncle's friend gave it to me for 50$. The diemiensions he gave me were 60x18x27. Im guessing thats in the 110-120g range.

Anyway i want to keep my JD in there with other fish. I was thinking about a group of 4-6 clown loaches for the bottom and maybe 1 or 2 med to large fish to hang with my JD. So:
4-6x loaches
1x JD
1x ??
1x maybe ??

Is there any medium to large cichlid i can keep in the tank? I was thinking maybe a green terror or an oscar?

I've kept cichlids before but any help on my question would be great.
:D

Green terror or an oscar would both be acceptable choices and the level of stocking your looking at, 3 large fish and some clown loaches, sounds fine to me. Some other suggestions for the large cichlids would be a texas cichlid, a severum, a chocolate cichlid, a H. Pearsi, an H. Psittacus, or many others. Basically you could have any large cichlid on the more peaceful end of the spectrum, Id avoid things like flowerhorns or red devils.

Sweet i knew my stocking would sound ok. Also im aware of how big my fish could potentially get. So in the future ill upgrade to a tank in the 160-180g range.
Thanks for the insightful info man!:D

I think the GT looks too much like the JD and will give you redundancy in coloring as well as aggression. I'd go for the Oscar and a Salvini to vary the colors a bit more. Silver Dollars might not be a great idea because you'll have your hands full with the bio load from the oscar.

You could also do maybe 2-3 firemouths, or a couple blood parrots. I think too that the GT would work but there would be a lot of similar coloration with the GT and JD. I like to pick fish that contrast and compliment one another. But i have seen several GT and JD tanks that work. Salvini are cool beans too. I have a few of them and they stay a little smaller like the firemouths but some cases I've heard of male salvini getting 8". Good luck with your decision!

Thanks for the great advice, but i think yur right. Having a school of SDs would be nice but i was thinking that the bioload from the other fish would be a bit much. So i was thinking of the:
Clown loaches
JD
Oscar
and a salvini
i think this would look really nice.

Also speaking of the bioload, i'm buying a fluval fx5 and an emp 400 for the tank.
Would this suffice for the filtration? I know that oscars can get very messy.:D

The filtration sounds ok. Once they hit their maximum sizes you may notice you need to increase your water changes or add another canister. As long as you do water tests you should see problems coming from a mile away.

Your right about the water changes. I also have a water test kit so ill be aware. Also im making my basement into a kind of fish room so ill upgrade this tank to a bigger one.:D
Anyway thanks for the help
