So as the post says, I'm picking up my first reef tank tomorrow. 72 gallon bowfront, with all the bells and whistles. I honestly have no prior knowledge of saltwater so idk how to transport the tank, with live rock, and specimens (12 of them) safely.
I'm thinking about bringing the bags you get from the stores to put the specimens in. and get a tub for the live rock (will it need to be in water?) and putting as much water as I can in a big trash can?
Will this work? if not what should I do to start the water when I get it home? I'm a completely noob when it comes to saltwater :( please help me save my guys!

you should get a tub and make sure the live rosk is covered in water when transporting. You can either bag the specimens or put them in a 5 gallon bucket when transporting.
Id also take as much of the water home with you as you can. That way they will be acclimated to that water already and you have a better change of them living after you get the tank set up at your house.

I'd also find out what the salinity and temp is before you go. Make up a batch of water at home a day or two before, that way you'll be covered in case you can't bring all the water or you'll just be able to do a little bit of a water change as you set it back up.
