I have a 6 foot long 85 gallon tank, 2 Penguin 350 filters running with 4 carbon filters going in each one. Typical gravel bottom, some fake plants, and a few decorations. Stock: 6" Jack Dempsey, 3" Red Devil, 2x 2" Green Terrors, 2x 2.5" Red Devil/Flowerhorn hybrids, 2x 1.5" Red Terrors, (in the near future 2x Managuense and a Dovii all around 1"-2"), and for now a couple gold fish that haven't been eaten yet. Between the 2 filters they are filtering around 700 gallons per hour. I feed my fish 2 small meals a day, once in the morning and once at night. I am having trouble with my water not being crystal clear. Maybe it's impossible but I want as clear of a tank as I can get. There just seems to be tons and tons of tiny particles floating around everywhere. One of my larger decorations is sand stone, could this be part of it? I do 2 20% water changes each week. Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks!

Imo that will be difficult to achieve with those filters. With those filters when the cartridges clog up the incoming water and particles flow right over top of the cartridges putting the particles right back in the tank. Canister filters work a lot better, and sumps with filter socks even better than that. But you could play with your filters and try different sponges or aftermarket pads that may be an improvement over how clear your water is now.

Exactly this.

My ? Is one what are the dimentions of a 6 ft 85 gal.... That sounds very odd. Also why arent u run.ing any bio in ur filters.... You dont need 4 rows of filter pads. Just chang them mwhen they clog.?

And with the 2 rows of filter pads in ur filteres ur cuttimg down on the gph rating... The 350 or 380 or whatever u said they were is with no restriction so ur prob not pushin 700 gph.

Dimensions are 72"L x 15"W x 18"H. The filters both have 2 bio wheels after the carbon packs if that makes any difference.

The filters you are using are inadequate for that size tank. As your fish grow your water quality will get even worse. Time to upgrade the filters. Adding more fish will only make your problem worse. In the future it will also be time to upgrade the size of your tank.
