Ive been looking into these guys for quite some time. My question has anyone ever tried to keep them with gars. I have 2 florida gars and a tsn with a jag in a 180 grow out, going to a 415 diy. Am gettin 2 pbass and wanted a ray but cant seem to find any around my area. Has anyone had any experience with eels and gars. I thought it might make a nice setup. If i have to i can leave oout the jag and pbass.

I have a TT that gets along with everybody. He was with an alligator gar about a year ago and now he is with 2 ck's some pbass and a rtc. He does however have some decent size to him though. He's pushing the 20in mark. Nobody seems to mess with him though and he got along well with the gar in the past. Unless he's eating or the lights are out, he pretty much stays in his tube.

Hmm in a 415 i wnat him to get size im going with less fish to get more size i hope. So they have alot of personality from what ive seen and read, i wnat a ray but i like the eel idea also, all im worried about is my jag. He can be very very rammy sometimes.

The jag and pbass will both have to be left out if you get a tt eel. And having less fish will not effect their growth, other than possibly allowing you to keep the water more clean.

I can leave the jag in the 180. I Just wanted to get pbass again, but really think the eel gar idea would be different.

You didn't have any luck wit your tt and cichla? Mine has been wit pbass from day one. He knows no other way. And everybody gets along great! Even at feeding time.

I haven't tried it personally, but with the apetite of a pbass and the slender body shape of the eel, it's pretty obvious that your taking risk with that combo. (unless the cichla were added when the eel was already 24"+)

well the eel should be here monday maybe tues. I havent found the pbass yet. Got like 4 tank projects going on at the same time thanks to my 10yr old daughter.

Not neccesarily. Think about all the Arowana cichla combos people have going on. SA is definately a more delicate fish than the eel and just as slender in juvie stages. Plus from experience, my tt hasn't gotten as much as a nip from any of the others and he was much smaller than 24" when I got him (approx. 10"). My bass are a pretty good size too. Just to clear the water, heres an old feeding vid back when my tt was around the 12-14" mark. Still did great with my cichla and my brokeback alligator gar. hehe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DZoSqgLHvQ

Well no worries. TT should do just fine with your pbass.

Actually, I've never seen a juvie silver aro kept with any cichla over 5-6", and the recommendation that is usually given for keeping aros with cichla is that the aro should be at least twice the length of the cichla and should not be kept with them at all until it reaches 10"+...... And btw, just because it worked out for you, does not mean there was no risk involved. I have seen (and kept) a lot of successful combinations that shouldn't have worked out, but did anyway, but would I recommend others to try any of them?... no, I wouldn't.
